Mt Lemmon & Biosphere 2
Arizona, June 2008

Kay and Ed chose a destination spa trip to Canyon Ranch for the second year in a row. Before the spa experience, they flew out early to hike in the Phoenix area with Doug. The temperatures were soaring at the time, up to 113 in Phoenix proper. After the morning hike, making a dash to the cooler Tucson area made a difference. The next day, they took a road trip to the top of Mt. Lemmon, a trip that was ultimately rewarding on many levels. First it was their anniversary. Second, at they ascended to the 9000 foot level, the temperature dropped to 70 degrees. And at the very top, a famous pie shop had an OPEN sign on the door. In they went and treated themselves to world famous pie. They did find a few hiking paths along the way, saw King Arthur and his merry men being filmed by some university students, and saw the devastation from the fire that wiped out the area years ago. Following the higher elevations and cooler weather of day two, day three found them exploring the Biosphere 2, recently taken over by the University of Arizona. Next it was off to 8 days of spa life at Canyon Ranch. |
