THE DEBT
THE DEBT was a dramatic film involving espionage during the time of the war, so years ago. A certain man was to be killed but never was. It wasn't until years later that the older agents managed to kill the right person, ending up to be their fatal fall in the end.
CONTAGION
CONTAGION was a dramatic film that showed how quickly an infectious disease can travel throughout the world. We learn at the end of the film that a crop of banana trees has been catipillard down. A bat ingests part of one of the down bananas and then heads to a pig farm where he makes a deposit that gets mixed up in the pigs foood. The pig(s) now have the infectious disease. Pig being a popular dish in the Japanese culture was served to a "cluster" of people who all became ill. Anyone they came in contact with, unless immune, caught the desease and died. The disease spread throughout the world from the one "cluster" who ate the pig. The point of the movie was to show how fast infectious disease can travel. In this case, unless immune, the afflicted die within a day or two. The film makes you parnoid to be around people her are coughing and sneezing or touching something they have touched. We touch our faces a minimum of 3 times in a short amount of time, therefore delivering possible disease.
I Don't Know How She Does It
Kate Reddy devotes her days to her job with a Boston-based financial management firm. At night she goes home to her adoring, recently-downsized architect husband Richard and their two young children. It's a non-stop balancing act, the same one that Kate's acerbic best friend and fellow working mother Allison performs on a daily basis, and that Kate's super-brainy, child-phobic young junior associate Momo fully intends to avoid. When Kate gets handed a major new account that will require frequent trips to New York, Richard also wins the new job he's been hoping for -- and both will be spreading themselves even thinner. Complicating matters is Kate's charming new business associate Jack Abelhammer, who begins to prove an unexpected source of temptation.
MONEYBALL
For the most part, MONEYBALL received thumbs down on the movie by local audiences. They claim it was slow and boring. One theater goer banned the movie from her list due to all the controversial gossip that has suddenly appeared about Brad and Jen's marriage. As for the movie and my take - it was kind of slow and boring. The majoritiy of the picture revolved around Brad Pitt who showed a stranage but possible an accurate attitude towards the players. If you are or were an Oakland A's fan back in 2002, that must have been an exciting season with twenty straight wins.
ABDUCTION
A teen finds himself in mortal danger after realizing that his entire childhood has been built on lies. Realizing that the people who raised him aren't his real parents after stumbling across a childhood photo of himself on a website devoted to missing children, the frightened teen flees for his life as FBI agents Frank Burton and Sandra Burns race to protect him and uncover the truth about his mysterious past.
DRIVE
Driver is a Los Angeles wheelman for hire, stunt driving for movie productions by day and steering getaway vehicles for armed heists by night. Though a loner by nature, Driver can't help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene, a vulnerable young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband Standard. After a heist intended to pay off Standard's protection money spins unpredictably out of control, Driver finds himself driving defense for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals. But when he realizes that the gangsters are after more than the bag of cash in his trunk - that they're coming straight for Irene and her son - Driver is forced to shift gears and go on offense.

The critics gave this movie a B+ and the audience gave it a B. I would give it a C. For a movie that had the build up to be fast paced, this was anything but that. There was only one stunt performed and one get away and one running from the bad guys. Some of the movie appeared to be shot in slow motion which made the SLOWNESS of the movie that much more draining. This critic says THUMBS DOWN.

The Dolphin Tale
Swimming free, a young dolphin is caught in a crab trap, severely damaging her tail. She is rescued and transported to the Clearwater Marine Hospital, where she is named Winter. But her fight for survival has just begun. Without a tail, Winter's prognosis is dire. It will take the expertise of a dedicated marine biologist, the ingenuity of a brilliant prosthetics doctor, and the unwavering devotion of a young boy to bring about a groundbreaking miracle -- a miracle that might not only save Winter but could also help scores of people around the world. The real Winter, who plays herself in "Dolphin Tale," today serves as a symbol of courage, perseverance and hope to millions of people -- both able and disabled -- who have been touched by her remarkable story of recovery and rehabilitation.

The write up on Dolphin Tale tells it like it is. This critic give it two thumbs up for being an all around family movie and just a feel good movie. If you miss it in the theaters, make sure to rent it. dlp

What's your Number?
Ally Darling embarks on a quest to find the best "ex" of her life, by any means necessary, when she reads a magazine article warning that people who have had 20 or more relationships have missed their chance at true love. This critic said that this movie was a fun way to spend an afternoon with mindless entertainment. It was cute, effectionate, ruthless, and in the end, true love. - dlp
50/50
Inspired by a true story: Adam Lerner has a pretty great life -- with a talented, sexy artist girlfriend and a cool job with NPR, the 27-year old seems to have it all. But when Adam discovers he has a rare and possibly fatal form of cancer, his entire life turns to chaos. As his world starts to unravel in every way, Adam finds himself dealing with the wellmeaning but totally outrageous attempts by his friends and family to make it all better. His best friend, Kyle, uses Adam's condition to lure girls into sympathy sex, his overbearing mother loses sight of him in her own fears, his otherwise-occupied girlfriend, Rachael tries to distract herself an increasingly frantic social life, and Katherine, the inexperienced therapist assigned to his case, struggles to keep up with the needs of her third client ever. This critic said, " I liked my movie. It was funny, sad, gross, touching and thought provoking. It was nice to see Anjelica Houston again. - MN
I just saw 50/50 and found it a great study in sociology and pychologhy. It was interesting to see how various people reacted towards Adam once they found out he had cancer. His best friend tried to do the most for him, but actually did things as he thought they would be good for him. He did the best he was equiped to do. His mother not torturing him, but rather going to a cancer support group was interesting and probably exactly what they both needed. I'm glad he was finally able to open up to the intern/pcycholgist, especially right before his surgery. The movie was slow in parts but in all, well done. dlp
Ides or March
During the frantic last days before a heavily contested Ohio presidential primary, an up-and-coming campaign press secretary finds himself involved in a political scandal that threatens to upend his candidate's shot at the presidency. During the frantic last days before a heavily contested Ohio presidential primary, an up-and-coming campaign press secretary finds himself involved in a political scandal that threatens to upend his candidate's shot at the presidency. This critic thought the movie interesting but the ending confusing. dlp
Real Steel
Charlie Kenton is a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback. This critic found these moving to be refreshingly entertaining. What a great concept for the boxing ring. Instead of men trying to kill themselves, steel robots are run by remote control and voice. Nice twist. dlp
The BIG YEAR
Everyone is searching for something - and Stu Preissler, Brad Harris and Kenny Bostick are determined to not only find their "something," but to be the very best at it. For Stu, Brad and Kenny, that means being the world's greatest "birder." An extraordinary race becomes a transformative journey for wealthy industrialist Stu, computer code-writer Brad, and successful contractor Kenny, who race across the continent on a Big Year, a whirlwind competition to see who can spot the most species of birds in North America within one calendar year. This critic found afternoon entertainment in the film, however, if you're not into "birding," go see something else. It was about spotting the most birds in a year and the relationships that folded and blossomed from the experience.
Footloose
Ren MacCormack is transplanted from Boston to the small southern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and Bomont's local councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the minister's troubled daughter Ariel in the process. This critic found many differences between the old version and new verson of FOOTLOOSE. In all, it was a good movie, showed the multi talented Julianne Hough, and introduced some new talent. Thumbs up.
THE RUM DIARY
Tiring of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, journalist Paul Kemp travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local newspaper, The San Juan Star, run by downtrodden editor Lotterman. Adopting the rum-soaked life of the island, Paul soon becomes obsessed with Chenault, the wildly attractive Connecticut-born fiancée of Sanderson. Sanderson, a businessman involved in shady property development deals, is one of a growing number of American entrepreneurs who are determined to convert Puerto Rico into a capitalist paradise in service of the wealthy. When Kemp is recruited by Sanderson to write favorably about his latest unsavory scheme, the journalist is presented with a choice: to use his words for the corrupt businessmen's financial benefit, or use them to take the bastards down.

This critic says that the movie followed the summary with the one exception, that this was a true story. After talking with three others, this film gets a thumbs down even for Johnny Depp. IN fairness, a fiyrth fruebd said she loved the movie and laughed outloud, especially in the beginning.

PUSS & BOOTS
Long before he even met Shrek, the notorious fighter, lover and outlaw Puss in Boots becomes a hero when he sets off on an adventure with the tough and street smart Kitty Softpaws and the mastermind Humpty Dumpty to save his town. This critic says that this was a nice family film after all the violence and swearing in other movies. There are a few lines for adults to understand more than a child.
IN TIME
In the near future, people are immortal because the aging gene has been deactivated. To avoid overpopulation, time has become the currency. The rich can live forever, and the rest have to negotiate for their immortality. When a young man comes into a fortune of time, he ends up on the run from a corrupt force known as "time keepers." IN TIME This critic says that one lives naturally till you’re 25. Then you either die or borrow or earn time. One young looking man who was really 105 admitted that sometimes you’re just ready to die, your mind gives up. Interesting, in real life our bodies and minds give up. This just showed that whether it is TIME or MONEY sustaining one’s life, the mind lets you know when it is time to parish. In the movie, you wear a time clock on your arm that indicates how much time you have left unless you earn or borrow time. You also spend time for services such as food, taxi, toll crossings. The movie was to show that the RICH can live forever, but they have bodyguards that watch over them so no one steals their time. The lower class or middle class has to struggle t o stay alive past age 25. Depending on your class status determines the district you live in. I found the philosophy behind the movie entertaining.
Tower Heist
Queens native Josh Kovacs has managed one of the most luxurious and well-secured residences in New York City for more than a decade. Under his watchful eye, nothing goes undetected. In the swankiest unit atop Josh's building, Wall Street titan Arthur...
J. Edgar
Based on the life of J. Edgar Hoover, the man often credited with making the FBI what it is today: an efficient, crime-fighting organization shrouded in secrecy. Hoover founded the organization in 1935 and remained director until his death in 1972. This critic liked the movie although it was too long. Leo was an excellent J. Edgar Hoover and Clint Eastwood did a fine job directing the film. Thumbs up.
The Muppets
On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary and Mary from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the ... For the cartoon as it was, and a theater f illed with kids, I think the movie was very fitting. dlp
